Lets give it up-tuesday

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to introduce you all to a fellow blogger of mine, Wilma Jean of Wilma Jean's Blog.

She is also a DIY'er and wanted to share a project with Us. But before we go into all to that, lets get to know her a little better. : )

Say Hey Hey Hey now to our fellow DIY’ers, Wilma Jean!

How's it going, ya'll?

Before we get into your feature, we just want to know a bit about you so let me start with the random questions. :)
Q)  So you DIY, inquiring minds what to know, how did you get started (or what inspired you)?

A) As far as I can remember, I have been DIY everything. My first memories were being recruited to make things for my sisters. (I'm in the middle) With the older, it was mock-ups for her make up practice. With the younger, it was barbie outfits and fixing broken jewelry. My mom got experimental in the kitchen, my dad was an all around handyman, I have an artist aunt, and a creative family in general, so inspiration was everywhere.   )
Q) I see you like to keep it kinky too .*wink*  How long have you been natural?

Well, technically I have been natural (no chemicals) for a few years, but I said goodbye to the flatiron about a year ago. It's amazing how much healthier my hair is now. And I feel more at ease with my personal style too.)

Q) Since you’re on Afro-Indy Chic, I gotta ask you.. How would you describe your everyday style?

Anything that goes with a big afro. lol. I call it "art school" or "rich hippie". Think Urban Outfitters, Free People, and Anthropologie, but from the clearance section. )

Q)  Your choice of a random question you wouldn’t mind answering.

How about some words of encouragement for potential transitioners?

A)    I have a friend who had grown half her perm out, and she was wearing extension afro puffs. I call it dress rehearsal for opening night. But she got frustrated with the two different textures and got a perm. Two days later she regretted it. I told her that sometimes it takes several attempts. I suggested some online natural hair forums, and for her to research and build up her product arsenal. So the next time she will be more prepared. I also reminded her that it’s never a good or a bad time to go natural, just your own time.

Alrighty, now that we know soooooo much aboutcha  what do you have for us today?

DIY Mixed Media Necklace

I made this necklace using bits of leftovers from other craft projects. The chain came from a thrifted belt, the satin ribbon I cut off an UO shirt (too frilly), and the b&w ribbon was a belt for a sundress. The black rose pin I bought on clearance forever ago.

It's a very simple project. The only other supplies you will need are a safety pin and scissors. That is it. (Also, to avoid a whole fitting issue, find pieces big enough to fit over your head with ease.)

1. Using the safety pin, thread the satin ribbon through the chain. I went up and over, depending on the chain links, it's up to you.

2. Wrap the b&w ribbon around the satin ribbon and chain as loosely or tightly as you choose.

3. Secure the ends, then add a knot about 1/2 inch away.

4. Use the flower pin to close it, at the knots.

5. Cut any extra ribbon, so it doesn't stick out behind the pin.

You are finished! Now wasn't that easy? Go show it off.

(I chose not to finish with craft glue, so I could easily take it apart if I wanted. But if you are making the necklace as a gift, or selling it,  add the glue for security.)
